The Well Akron CDC

In November 2020 The Well Akron CDC engaged RDL Architects to bring their vision to life. It quickly became clear The Well CDC needed technical expertise to help with the master planning of the project, as well as the establishment of development phases within a timeline. Through unique service offerings, RDL was able to streamline the process for The Well CDC, allowing them to save money throughout the redevelopment of the neighborhood.

In using City Home Funds, the project will add ten affordable new-construction units throughout the neighborhood to create home ownership opportunities at every income level. The plan includes funds to purchase and renovate homes for both rental properties and for sale, utilizing existing homes in the neighborhood. Through Factory 816, entrepreneurial, restaurant and other multi-function spaces will be available to the community. The full scope of work consists of seven projects and is scheduled to complete in 2027.

Placemaking

RDL started with 30 new construction units in the Roselawn/Excelsior block of the neighborhood, supported by LIHTC. These units are a combination of three and four-bedroom homes that feature a traditional design, borrowing details and elements from the existing neighborhood, coupled with a contemporary color palette for the exteriors.
